RCN Boston Supports New Residences in Boston for Homeless Youth
Boston, MA – October 12, 2017 - RCN Boston is supporting the new residences for Bridge Over Troubled Waters’ Homeless Youth by donating equipment, and giving more value by enhancing the homes’ telecommunications services. RCN representatives attended the recent formal opening of the new residences in Brighton that featured remarks by Mayor Martin J. Walsh and other dignitaries. The newly renovated and expanded living spaces will serve up to 50 homeless youth at any given time and mothers with their children, nearly doubling its previous capacity. The residences provide 28 units along with support services for residents.
RCN also supports Bridge with the company’s annual golf tournament and proceeds from the event are going toward programming and staff at the new residences.
“Bridge Over Troubled Waters is an important part of our community as it transforms and saves the lives of at-risk youth,” said Jeff Carlson RCN Boston VP and General Manager. “RCN is committed to Bridge and the great work it does by outfitting the new homes with RCN’s state of the art telecommunications services and through the donations generated by our annual golf event.”
RCN Representatives Jennifer Sciamanna and Leigh Famigliette attended the formal opening of the residence located on Abby Road and Waverly Street in Brighton, Mass.
“RCN has truly been a great partner and a generous donor to Bridge over the past several years,” said Elisabeth Jackson, Executive Director of Bridge Over Troubled Waters. “We need all the help we can get to give our kids a place that they can call home while they work on moving toward independent lives. RCN’s support helps us bridge the digital divide by giving us high speed internet access and other services at our newly renovated residences and provides funding for our life-changing programs.”
The project encompasses two adjacent buildings with the residence on Waverly Street serving as a Single Parent Home (SPH) for pregnant or parenting women and their children. The Transitional Living Program (TLP) is located on Abby Road and houses young men and women. The renovations have expanded the residences by more than 3,000 square feet for the purpose of increasing living capacity, updating internal systems, newly furnishing all bedrooms, enhancing communal spaces, and making the residences more comfortable and familial.
Both of the programs offered by Bridge Over Troubled Waters help young people find job opportunities, finish school, participate in workshops, and take advantage of the support systems offered within the program. With these renovations, the program will continue to provide a continuum of exceptional care to underserved youth and help them achieve independence and stability in order to become productive members of the community.
