Q. What is 4K?
A. 4K resolution, also called Ultra HD, UHD, or simply 4K, refers to programming and televisions that provide a higher resolution than High Definition. 4K TVs and programming deliver roughly 4 times the number of pixels on the screen than regular HD, which results in clearer pictures. The extra pixels also allow more opportunities for nuanced colors and create a higher level of picture quality.
Q. How do I get 4K with RCN?
A. Ultra High Definition (UHD), also known as 4K viewing, is currently available to RCN Digital TV customers. Watching programs in 4K quality requires a few things – a 4K TV (customer owned) and a source that provides content in Ultra HD / 4K. RCN equipment powered by TiVo (Arris MG2 set-top box) is capable of delivering 4K resolution programs to your TV. If you have a 4K television set and a 4K capable set-top box from RCN, you can view 4K content. To watch 4K shows available through streaming services you’ll also need an internet connection and a separate streaming subscription (like Netflix).
Q. How do I know if my TV is 4K?
A. Your TV user manual should contain information based on the make & model. You can also conduct a web search using your TV’s make and model to determine if it is 4K capable. Note that Netflix Ultra HD 4K streaming may only be available on specific TV models. Please consult your TV's user manual or your device manufacturer to see if your TV supports 4K.
Q. What is 4K content?
A. Everything becomes clearer with 4K. From on-demand movies, shows and events to Netflix, YouTube, live sports, and more, RCN’s 4K set-top box puts the highest resolution programs in your living room.
Q. Where can I find 4K content?
A. Today, 4K programming is becoming available as TV networks begin releasing more 4K shows and sports. Netflix, YouTube and other streaming services already provide a variety of shows and movies in 4K or “Mastered in 4K”, which can be accessed directly on your 4K TV. You may need an additional subscription from these streaming services to access their 4K content – please contact streaming providers directly for more info on subscription levels. Q. Will RCN offer a playlist feature?
A. As more 4K content becomes available from networks & other sources, the RCN TiVo interface and its intuitive search & record functions will make it easy for customers to locate & organize 4K content.
Q. Will RCN add 4K content (whether as a channel or On Demand)?
A. RCN customers can view 4K content with their existing subscription to streaming services who also offer 4K programming (like Netflix) and/or other providers that offer 4K movies, shows or videos like YouTube and other sources.
