You probably have questions about RCN and Braemar. These FAQs will give you many of the answers you need.
What is RCN?
RCN has been a customer-focused technology leader in the DC metro area for over 10 years. With superfast high-speed Internet service, an impressive digital TV lineup, including over one hundred high-definition channels, and highly reliable digital phone service, our fiber-optic network is built for innovation.
What was the “network transition” and “network upgrade”?
The network transition replaced the existing analog cable service, previously provided by Gatehouse, with RCN analog service. The transfer of the franchise from Prince William County took place at the end of April 2010. The Network Upgrade began soon after the Network Transition. From July to September 2010, RCN completed the upgrade to an all-digital platform so that improved cable, Internet and phone services could be provided to your home.
Were modifications to the homes required to deliver service?
Modifications were required for some homes to support transition to RCN services and enable network diagnostic capabilities. These home modifications occurred at the node outside of the home and the network interface device, which is typically located in the garage. RCN does not anticipate any underground digging at any private homes.
Will my HOA fee increase?
HOA fees do not increase due to RCN replacing Gatehouse. Rate increases are governed by the existing contracts, which limit digital TV and Internet services increases to the Producer Price Index (PPI).
What is included in my HOA Cable & Internet Fee?
The core HOA services are bulk digital TV service and high-speed Internet service. At the time of RCN’s network upgrade, digital TV service included RCN Signature Digital TV + up to 4 standard digital converter boxes and bulk Internet service at 1.5 Mbps with a standard modem rental. Bulk Internet service has since been increased to 5 Mbps download speed for all HOAs. Applicable franchise fees and taxes are included.
Transition and Upgrade Questions
