V92 Technology
Until recently using a Dial-Up
modem on a single phone line meant you could not answer the
phone or receive a fax while you were online. With the introduction
of V.92 technology, that’s changed, and RCN
is one of the first Internet Service Providers to make V.92
technology available to subscribers who choose our 56K Dial-Up
Modem.
V.92 product features:
 |
Improved
modem performance and more rapid download speeds –
A key feature of the V.92 modem standard is its ability
to achieve higher "compression" ratios, which
increase data throughput rates from 20% to 60% by packing
the data more tighly together. Because more data can now
be downloaded in the same amount of time, customers typically
enjoy a faster and more productive Web-surfing experience.
|
 |
Modem-on-Hold
– This new feature allows an RCN dial-up customer
to receive incoming phone calls and faxes, and still maintain
their Internet connection. All the customer needs is Call-Waiting
service from their local phone company to receive the
incoming call, and then switch back to their Internet
connection. Connection to the Web is not lost during this
process.
|
 |
Faster connection
speeds, shortening the average time required to establish
a dial-up Internet connection – A dial-up modem
connection typically takes about 25 to 27 seconds to complete.
With the new V.92 modem standard, the connection time
is cut in half for most calls, a significant improvement
over the industry average. |
