Cable TV Troubleshooting - Converter & TV turn off together and go to wrong channel when turned back On

This happens when the AC outlet on a converter is set to "Switched". A switched outlet can be found on the back of most converter boxes. It is used as an extra power outlet for devices such as a TV.

It is called "Switched" because whatever unit you have plugged into it will have power cut to it when you turn off the converter. When a newer TV has the power cut to it, it may default to a channel (usually 2) other than the converter's INPUT channel (3 or 4 in PA/IL).

To resolve this issue, converter box manufacturers have come up with a way to UNswitch, or keep the outlet "Always On". This way, the power is never cut to the TV, and it does not reset back to channel 2.
