Guidelines
RCN's company-wide contribution efforts reflect our goal to play an active role in
the communities that we serve. Providing support to non-profit organizations within our
service territories is one way that RCN works towards that goal.
Unfortunately, RCN cannot meet every request for support that we receive; therefore,
we have developed contribution criteria and procedures designed to establish Company
priorities for giving. RCN only considers requests from organizations that primarily serve
the communities where we have operations. In addition to monetary contributions, RCN
provides in-kind donations and encourages all of its employees to actively participate in
community affairs.
Donation application procedures
RCN welcomes requests for support throughout the year consistent with the guidelines set
forth below. We do not consider multi-year requests for support.
There is no donation application form. Requests must be submitted in writing and
should include the following information:
- A brief, written description of the organization on its official letterhead,
including name, history, activities, purpose and proof of tax exempt status under
section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code
- History of previous support from RCN Corporation or any of its subsidiaries or
any companies acquired by RCN (such as Con Ed Communications or NEON)
- The amount of donation or in-kind service being requested
- Description of intended use of requested funds, who will benefit and how they
will benefit
- Impact areas and communities addressed by the donation
- Overall budget of related program
- Description of how the organization will measure results and report outcome of
the use of funds being requested
- A statement that the organization is in compliance with the Equal Employment
Opportunities Act and other federal, state and local laws and regulations
Review and Evaluation of Donation Requests
Requests and supporting materials are carefully reviewed. If available funds permit
consideration of request, the organization may be asked to provide more complete
information before a decision is made.
Notification of donation request approval or rejection will be made in writing
within 6-8 weeks of receipt of all materials. We do not respond to telephone
or email follow-ups.
Since RCN receives funding requests far in excess of its annual donation program,
we must unfortunately decline support to many worthy organizations and programs.
Organizations and activities that are not eligible include:
- Religious, fraternal, service and veteran organizations except for non-sectarian
social service activities available to the broader community, such as a senior center
or a church-owned housing project
- Organizations without a 501(c)(3) status
- Athletes or sports teams not connected to a school or youth group with other developmental goals
- Individuals or their research projects
- Politically-based or motivated activities
- Trips, travel or cultural exchange programs
All donation requests should be submitted to:
